Fairfield Connecticut’s Sacred Heart Community Theater

The Community Theater that has occupied the center of downtown Fairfield, CT for 100 years is set for a grand reopening. The archetypal roaring 20s aesthetic of this burlesque hall-turned-theater is returning from a short hiatus thanks to its new owner and operator, Sacred Heart University.

The common thread of celebrating the past and honoring of the cultural legacy into the future of the theater has - and will bring - a host of unique and exciting experiences back inside the walls of the theater. In the wake of COVID-19, the SHU Community Theater is still opening its doors in 2020 to mark its centennial. Though they will be virtual doors, you’ll still be able to experience the restored iconic design elements from the original ticket booth, the balcony, proscenium, and the original theater marquee that illuminates the town square - just as it did in the 1920s.

“While the implications of the pandemic have challenged everyone, we’re even more committed to fulfill our promise to bring great film, performing arts and educational events back to the town square,” says Bill Harris, director of the new SHU Community Theater. “In fact, we’re advancing our community outreach and engagement efforts even before we officially open the doors, with the launch of a new SHU Community Virtual Theater online, with free, exclusive SHU programming all summer.”

Fairfield is adjusting with composure to COVID-19, and The Community Theater is one of many attractions around town that is moving cautiously but nimbly through the pandemic.
